Sessions

EMC Presentations

Software Defined Storage: Automating your Datacenter Server virtualization enabled cloud transformation and customers have realized tremendous benefits from it. It leads us to wonder: Can we apply the same principles that transformed a single layer of the data center to every layer? That’s the promise of the software-defined data center (SDDC). In this session, we explore the software-defined data center, what it means for complete end-to-end automation, and how you can change SDDC from a buzzword into a real concept that differentiates your business.

Hybrid Cloud Strategy The era of the 3rd Platform is upon us—so how do you capitalize on the massive opportunity it represents? Learn how we're redefining cloud infrastructure to optimize your data center for the 3rd platform, while serving the continuing needs of the 2nd. With Converged Infrastructure and EMC’s hybrid cloud solutions, we are making “Anything-as-a-Service” possible, so you can serve the needs of your business today and tomorrow. Drive greater business value by empowering on-demand, self-service capabilities to your end-users. In this session, we will also discuss how Converged Infrastructure solutions from EMC – Like VSPEX and Vblock – can help you automate your data center faster than ever before. Want to easily deploy self-service portals that allow users to provision their own resources? Interested in metering each department's IT usage and implementing a chargeback model? Converged Infrastructure solutions from EMC can help make your SDDC goals a reality.

Redefined Enterprise Storage Over the past 30 years, as we have transitioned from the mainframe era to the internet era to the recent birth of cloud computing and the explosion of mobile devices, we have seen the number of applications grow from thousands to many millions. This explosion of new and ever diversifying workloads has driven significant innovation in the storage industry. In this session, we will examine how EMC’s Storage Strategy has evolved with these market forces. Learn how to rapidly differentiate between storage offerings from any vendor and have a better understanding on how to match the right EMC storage product for your data center.

Optimizing Multi-Database & Application Environments Over 90% of IT organizations today are running a combination of Oracle, Microsoft and SAP environments. Many CIOs are struggling with the high cost in infrastructure and management of separate IT infrastructure across these distinct application environments. This session will cover how private cloud computing with EMC can help IT organizations optimize infrastructure and operations in multi-database and application environments. Case studies and best practices will be outlined to help reduce IT infrastructure cost and improve productivity for application and IT infrastructure teams.

Redefine Availability and Disaster Recovery EMC continues to accentuate its unique ability to address the full data protection continuum by offering continuous availability, mobility and disaster recovery for more environments and multi-site configurations. EMC introduces VPLEX Virtual Edition - the industry's first virtualized solution that offers both continuous availability and data mobility in a low-cost, 100% software deployment. We will also introduce MetroPoint topology, an industry-unique 3 site business continuity capability for mission-critical applications.

Data Lake In Action: Real-time Analytics On Hadoop Everything we do generates events – click on a mobile ad, pay with a credit card, tweet, measure heart rate, accelerate on the gas pedal, and others. What if an organization can feed these events into predictive models as soon as the event happens and quickly and more accurately make decisions that generate more revenue, lower costs, minimize risk, and improve the quality of care? You would need deep and fast analytics provided by a Data Lake. Pivotal Big Data Suite delivers the Data Lake promise through real-time data services for Hadoop – an in-memory database tier for quick data processing, reasoning, or scoring before the data is persisted in HDFS.

Delivering Big Data Workloads as a Service to your Organisation Come and learn why businesses around the globe are centralising their file data into a multi-protocol data lake that is analytics-enabled and has multiple consumption models. EMC Isilon is the perfect solution for both high performance and active archive file and object workloads. Using the EMC Isilon Hadoop Starter Kit, IT can leverage existing investments in virtualisation and storage to quickly deploy, manage, and scale a Hadoop cluster. And using Pivotal HD, organisations can use existing SQL skills to query and analyse unstructured data collections with impressive time-to-results. Accelerate your Big Data BI, move off an expensive public cloud provider such as Amazon, and bring Hadoop-as-a-Service in house to meet new business demands.

Redefine Xtreme Performance with Flash The way we work today is very different from the past. A more agile workforce is demanding work environments that are accessible anytime, from anywhere, on any device—all without losing performance. At the same time, business needs are changing. Emerging new challenges include lowering cost, securing sensitive data, and supporting a BYOD strategy. In this session, learn how by implementing a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) using an All-Flash or Hybrid Array Strategy could be the answer to help solve these challenges. Explore how you can improve end-user experience and productivity, reduce IT costs, improve data protection, and ultimately increase agility and flexibility for your business.

From Backup to Availability - Explore the Data Protection Continuum How do you protect your data: Backup, Replication, Mobility or all three? Is one method good enough or should you consider elevating your data protection strategy? In this session, we will examine the issues that put your business data at risk and how you can have the best of all worlds in the Data Protection Continuum. Your organization can evolve its data protection strategy to reduce RPOs and provide continuous operation by building on a foundation of backup and recovery, and then layering in complementary technologies for snapshot management, continuous data protection and availability.

Redefining Files For The Mobile WorkForce It is under pressure to provide users with access to data anytime, from any device and in a secure way that can provide governance controls and meet business requirements. Learn how EMC IT provided a sync-and-share service with enterprise-grade security and manageability using Isilon, VNX, and Atmos storage for EMC’s global mobile workforce. The result? Users get improved productivity from access and sharing of all their local files from all their devices automatically, with no extra steps. IT gets strong security, controls and storage flexibility to protect corporate files and adhere to compliance requirements.

EMC IT Use Case: Unleashing Business Agility For the Third Platform With the advert of the Third Platform, EMC IT's vision is to deliver a rich user experience for secure information access from anywhere, anytime, on any device. John Roese, EMC Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, to Present Keynote at Australia’s EMC Forum 2014 in EMC ANZ

Posted by: Alister Dias 2014/5/22

By Alister Dias, Vice President & Managing Director, EMC Australia & New Zealand

At EMC, we understand the impact that mobile, social, cloud and Big Data is having on businesses of all sizes, in all industries. IDC calls this new era of computing the “Third Platform” and believes that organisations’ ability (or inability) to compete on the Third Platform will reset leadership ranks in the IT market and every industry that uses IT. EMC is committed to helping you harness these trends as business opportunities and will explore how you can do this at EMC Forum 2014.

As an expert in helping organisations embrace change and innovation, our global Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, John Roese, will be delivering the keynote presentation at this year’s EMC Forum. John will explain how Australian organisations must redefine their IT strategy to move towards a software-defined environment, allowing them to compete in a much smarter and agile way. He will also discuss breakthrough technologies such as software-defined storage and hyperscale cloud capabilities, which are redefining storage and bringing cloud scale economics to the masses.

A 20-year veteran of the IT industry, John heads up EMC’s Corporate Office of Technology and helps set our technology vision and strategy. He makes sure that what we do and where we’re going supports the needs and priorities of our customers. John’s industry experience spans IT from networking, storage, servers and virtualisation, and he has in the past headed an R&D organisation with a staff of 12,000 and a US$1.7 billion budget.

At EMC Forum, John will discuss EMC’s Federated business model, which includes VMware, Pivotal and RSA, and how our combined strategy will empower organisations to move to and embrace the promises of the Third Platform.

Join us at Australia’s EMC Forum, where you will have the chance to learn from expert speakers and real world use cases, participate in customer and technical sessions, and view product demonstrations.

The event will be held in Sydney on Friday, 1 August 2014 and Melbourne on Wednesday, 6 August 2014. For further information and to register to attend please visit here.
